What eighteen year old Mac Thorne doesn’t know will probably kill her.
In exactly eight months, five days, three hours and thirteen minutes, Mac has to choose what she’ll be for the rest of her life.
She has no choice but to pick. As a Changeling, it’s her birthright. To Mac, it’s a birthchore. Like going to school with humans, interacting with humans, and pretending to be human during the pesky daylight hours.
Once darkness descends, Mac can change into any supernatural form that exists—which makes her as happy as she can be. That is, until Winn Thomas, the biggest geek in her senior class figures out there’s more to what hides in the dark than most are willing to acknowledge.
In this first of the 19th Year Trilogy, Winn might know more about Mac than even she does, and that knowledge could end their lives, unless Mac ensures the powers-that-be have no choice but to keep him around.

I've gotta say, After Dark is the perfect YA Urban Fantasy!!! The premise is creative and unique (and I heart that big time!), with fun twists on what you thought you knew about the paranormal. The plot is engaging with great mystery and just the right amount of romance (and yummy chemistry galore!!!). It's simply an amazing read; one that is terribly hard to put down once you start. And then there's the cast!!! Mac is such a great character. I love her snarkiness!!! She's a favorite heroine of mine now. She's defiant and independent, but has a softer side she tries to keep buried. Her character growth seems natural and is paced nicelyly throughout the book. Then there's Winn **happy sigh**. Winn is an unexpected element; not your usual hero, which makes him the perfect breath of fresh air! Those around Mac and Winn are interesting and full of surprises (there's some great humor here as well). I just couldn't get enough of After Dark!!! The ending is fFAB-U-LOUS!!!! I loved what happened, how it unfolded and the consequences of it! I am crazy eager to read book 2, Day After, due out in May (yikes! that's a long time to wait!!).
Favorite Quotes from Mac:
"A real smile managed to cross my lips instead of the sarcastic one I wanted to share -- and would have if she didn't keep filling the space around me with happiness."
"Awkward and I didn't often meet, but at that moment, we stood in the same spot."
It's sooooo beautiful, making me want to read the story within; though I do find myself wanting to place the tomb stone just a pinch to the right or maybe fade it out or even remove it completely. Hmmm. So maybe not perfect, but very nice nonetheless.
